This past Sunday, Station 60 responded on two working fires in commercial occupancies in Town. The one alarm fire at 601 Ewing Street came in as an automatic fire alarm system activation, which was upgraded upon arrival of PD confirming heavy fire showing from the front of the structure. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and knocked down the bulk of fire within an adjacent office suite which had extended to the exterior of the structure.
The two alarm fire at 41 Witherspoon Street was initially reported as a bucket smoldering to the exterior of the structure. Upon investigation it was determined that the fire had extended into the wood floor assembly below and was running the joists within the crawlspace towards adjacent occupancies. Crews opened up the floor assembly to gain access to the crawlspace to extinguish the fire and confirmed no further extension.
Many thanks to PPD, PFARS and the many mutual aid agencies involved for their help during these incidents.
